What is a Crown?
When your tooth becomes fractured, decayed, injured, or infected beyond the scope of what a dental filling can repair, you’ll need a dental crown. Designed to replace your damaged tooth, while protecting your root structure, a dental crown is typically made of high quality porcelain that is designed to match your existing teeth and naturally complement your smile. A crown fits over your remaining tooth structure like a “cap,” and you’ll enjoy all the function you had with your natural tooth.
What is E4D CAD/CAM Technology?
The process to complete a dental crown used to be a long one. It would require at least two long appointments at our office, and approximately 2-4 weeks of time in between receiving your temporary crown and your permanent crown from the dental laboratory. If your temporary crown fell off or broke, you’d have to come for additional appointments to have it replaced. This was very time consuming for patients.
E4D CAD/CAM technology has completely revolutionized and streamlined the crown process. At Distinctive Smiles of Dublin, we are proud to offer same day crowns to our patients. How does it work? We scan a 3D image of your tooth directly to our milling machine located in our office. With this image, we design and custom shade your new tooth, and our milling machine fabricates your new crown while you wait. There are no longer messy and uncomfortable impressions taken of your tooth, and no unreliable temporary crowns to wear. You’ll leave our office the same day with a brand new fully functioning tooth!
