Cutting-Edge Dental Technology
At Distinctive Smiles of Dublin in Dublin, OH, Dr. Buck and our staff pride ourselves upon offering only the best in dental care and modern technology to our patients. That’s why our practice implements the latest in state-of-the-art equipment and advanced technology, giving you and your family the clear advantage of personalized treatment and superior services. We are always excited when we introduce something new that will keep our patients healthy and happy, including E4D CAD/CAM technology, OralID cancer screening, and more.
We have recently introduced the Oral ID screening device into our practice. The Oral ID examination will allow us to visualize any oral mucosal abnormalities including dysplasia (pre-cancer) before they can be detected with the naked eye. The procedure is quick, painless, and no rinses or dyes are used.
The Oral ID is a handheld device that looks like a small flashlight. It can be used alongside our visual oral cancer exam to screen for any soft tissue abnormalities in the gums, tongue, inner lining of the cheek, and other surfaces within the oral cavity. It uses a specific light wavelength that reflects a green color off of healthy tissue but appears dark for tissue that is abnormal.
As is the case with other cancers, early detection of oral cancer is critical. Studies have shown that early detection of oral cancer with technologies like the Oral ID dramatically improves the survivability of the disease. If oral cancer is detected in its later stages, which typically occurs during a conventional oral cancer exam, the chances of survival are dramatically reduced.
We will still perform a visual white light exam at each of your preventative appointments whether or not you choose to have us perform an exam with the Oral ID. However, this new technology serves as another valuable tool for early detection so we encourage you to take advantage of this service.
E4D CAD/CAM Technology: Same-Day Dentistry
E4D CAD/CAM technology makes it possible to create and place customized dental restorations, including beautiful porcelain crowns, in a single visit to our office. This means enhanced comfort and convenience for our patients, whose time we know is a valuable commodity.
Unlike the conventional method used to take impressions for the fitting of a crown, our process eliminates the need for messy impression materials and long waits. Instead, we use a digital scanner to capture incredibly detailed images of your dentition from every angle. You simply lie back and relax; there’s no discomfort whatsoever, and the entire process is quick and simple.
This information is used by the E4D-powered software to develop a digital, three dimensional model that can be assessed and manipulated on a computer screen. The sophisticated software and milling machine work together to fabricate your customized dental restoration right here in our office; this means that there’s no need for multiple appointments or temporary crowns while you wait. Within one to two hours, you’ll leave our office with your beautiful new restoration in place, looking and feeling better than ever.
Patient comfort and convenience are of upmost concerns, so we are proud to have integrated the Wand into our practice. CompuDent, which is the brain behind the Wand, is a computerized local anesthesia delivery unit. The Wand is actually the pen-like hand piece that administers the anesthesia.
