#1: The Calculus Bridge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Untreated tartar buildup can lead to a rare condition called a \u201ccalculus bridge,\u201d where hardened deposits form around multiple teeth. In one case, a patient tried to remove the buildup by brushing aggressively, only to have several teeth fall out. The severe buildup had been hiding the real problem: advanced gum disease had already damaged the bone and tissues supporting the teeth, leaving them extremely loose. The calculus was basically holding them in place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#2: The Palate Infection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One patient arrived at the dentist with signs of infection and generally feeling unwell. Once the dentist examined their mouth, they discovered a severe oral infection along with a hole in the roof of the mouth! The patient explained that they had been using tissues to cover the opening and only replacing them about once a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#3: The Mouth Garden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes, a dental visit can uncover something no one expects. One patient came in with a painful tooth and needed a root canal. While the dentist was cleaning around the tooth and beneath the gums, they made a bizarre discovery: seeds had somehow become lodged below the gumline and had even started to sprout!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#4: Super Glue Trouble<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A loose dental crown may seem like an easy fix, but one patient made the situation much more complicated. After her crown fell out, she decided to put it back in place herself using super glue. Unfortunately, the glue didn\u2019t just bond the crown to her tooth. It also caused her teeth to stick together and even bonded parts of her lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
