The Initial Consultation<\/h3>\n

In your first visit for dental implants with Dr. Buck, you\u2019ll have impressions and x-rays taken of your mouth. These help us to create a treatment plan that\u2019s just right for you and your unique teeth. During this visit, we\u2019ll also make sure you have adequate existing jawbone in order to support the dental implants. This appointment is your chance to make your dentist aware of any relevant medical information, and to ask any questions you may have regarding the procedure.<\/p>\n

The First Surgery<\/h3>\n

The first surgery is when most of the big work takes place. It\u2019s when the actual implant is implanted into your jawbone, and you\u2019ll be under general anaesthesia for this part. After he makes a small incision in your gum, Dr. Buck will drill a hole in the exposed bone, place the implant and close the area with stitches. This process is repeated with each implant. After the surgery is complete, you\u2019ll be given a recovery period of three to six months, during which the implant will fuse with the jawbone — a process known as osseointegration.<\/p>\n

The Second Surgery<\/h3>\n

In the second surgery, your dentist will open up the gums to show the tops of the implants — the part that will hold the dentures. Once those are exposed, a collar or cap is placed on top to guide healing. After 10 to 14 days, that healing collar is replaced with regular abutments and another impression will be taken to create your dentures.<\/p>\n

The Final Step<\/h3>\n

At this point, the hard work is over and you\u2019re so close to your new smile.
