Porcelain Inlays & Onlays
If you have a large cavity you need to treat, you may need more than a simple filling but something less than a full crown. In these cases, we recommend an inlay or onlay. These special solutions fit onto a decayed tooth like a filling but they’re milled like a porcelain restoration.
An inlay is designed to fit between the cusps of your teeth, while an onlay is made to fit over one or more of your cusps. Regardless of which you end up with, you’ll retain more of your tooth’s natural structure, and you can look forward to results that last for years to come.
Porcelain Inlays & Onlays Procedure
Inlays and onlays aren’t right for every situation, though. That’s why any patient considering either solution should visit our Dublin, OH dental office for a special consultation. During your visit, we’ll assess your needs and make a treatment recommendation based on what we find. If an inlay or onlay is what you need, our lab will create a custom-made restoration based on an impression of your tooth.
From there, a complete inlay or onlay procedure takes two appointments to complete. During your first appointment, we’ll prep your tooth and take the impression that our lab will use to fabricate your restoration. In between your first and second visit, you’ll wear a temporary crown to protect your tooth. When your inlay or onlay is finished, you’ll come back to our office to have your temporary removed and your final restoration attached.
