Preventive dentistry includes services like cleanings and exams, of course, but it also includes services like dental sealants, periodontal therapy, nightguards, mouthguards, emergency dental care, and oral cancer screenings. To enjoy optimal oral health now and in the future, we recommend visiting our office in Dublin, OH at least twice a year for service. These visits are essential for diagnosing and treating any of the most common dental problems early on, before they have a chance to develop.
Oral Hygiene, Teeth Cleaning, & First Visit
When you come to our Dublin, OH office for your first visit, you’ll be greeted warmly by a team that truly cares about helping you achieve better oral and overall wellbeing. In addition to completing a comprehensive cleaning and exam, we’ll also spend some time getting to know you and your own oral health goals. Getting to know you and your smile is an essential part of providing patients with personalized care. Following your initial exam, we recommend coming back every six months for additional cleanings and exams.
Bruxism / Nightguards
While teeth grinding is a natural response to stress, it can have long-term consequences for your teeth and the muscles and tissues in and around your jaw. Thankfully, this condition, which is known as bruxism, can be treated with a custom-made oral appliance known as a nightguard. A nightguard fits over your teeth to protect them from the destructive grinding and clenching associated with bruxism. For some patients, simply wearing a nightguard is enough to resolve this problem, while others might also want to integrate relaxation techniques into their daily routines.
If you think you might be struggling with bruxism, let Dr. Buck or Dr. Burton of Distinctive Smiles of Dublin assess your smile during a special consultation. If it turns out that you are struggling with bruxism, we’ll be happy to talk to you about treatment with a custom-made nightguard. If you have questions about how a nightguard works, or about ways you can supplement your treatment, we’ll be happy to answer them. Our entire team is dedicated to helping bruxism patients reclaim good oral health and wellbeing through oral appliance therapy.
Oral ID & Cancer Screening
As with any kind of cancer, detecting oral cancer early is important. That’s why our office uses OralID. This special device looks like a small flashlight and can be used alongside a traditional visual exam to screen for soft tissue abnormalities in the gums, tongue, inner lining of the cheek, and other surfaces within the oral cavity. It uses a specific light wavelength that reflects a green color off of healthy tissue but appears dark for any tissue that’s abnormal. If we detect anything during your exam, we can begin working with you on a treatment plan immediately.
Do you struggle with frequent headaches, jaw clicking, or pain in your neck, back or shoulders? You may be struggling with a condition known as TMJ dysfunction. This frequent problem is often caused by an uneven bite but can be managed with a special oral appliance. Your appliance will correct your smile’s alignment, preventing pain and help you enjoy better oral health and wellbeing again. If you struggle with the symptoms of TMJ dysfunction, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with our Dublin, OH dental office.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
Are you tired, stressed, or moody during the day? You may be struggling with sleep apnea. Patients with sleep apnea stop breathing while asleep, often for 10 seconds or more, causing interruptions in the sleep cycle and making it difficult to get a full night of rest. Thankfully, treatment is possible with either a CPAP machine or a custom-made oral appliance. After assessing your situation, Dr. Buck will talk to you about the treatment that’s most right for you.
To make your visit with us more comfortable, we offer a range of patient comforts, from headphones to comfortable pillows and blankets. We even utilize a special tool called the Wand.
