Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Like general dentistry, family dentistry focuses first and foremost on regular checkups and cleanings. The American Dental Association recommends that you visit the dentist at least twice a year (every six months), and we couldn't agree more. This is especially important for young children, who may not yet have learned the skills needed to properly care for their teeth and gums. We'll be sure to inspect both your and your family's mouths thoroughly, as well as provide an in-depth cleaning that will be sure to leave you all smiling.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Person holding a custom nightguard for bruxism

While teeth grinding is a natural stress response, it can have long-term consequences for your teeth and the muscles and tissues in and around your jaw. Thankfully, this condition, which is known as bruxism, can be treated with a custom-made oral appliance known as a nightguard. A nightguard fits over your teeth to protect them from the destructive grinding and clenching associated with bruxism. For some patients, simply wearing a nightguard is enough to resolve this problem, while others might also want to integrate relaxation techniques into their daily routines.

If you think you might be struggling with bruxism, let Dr. Buck of Distinctive Smiles of Dublin assess your smile during a special consultation. If it turns out that you are struggling with bruxism, we’ll be happy to talk to you about treatment with a custom-made nightguard. If you have questions about how a nightguard works, or about ways you can supplement your treatment, we’ll be happy to answer them. Our entire team is dedicated to helping bruxism patients reclaim good oral health and well-being through oral appliance therapy.

Fluoride Treatments

At the end of your appointment, we can give your teeth a quick dose of fluoride. This helps strengthen the enamel, giving it better protection against tooth decay and cavities. Most people get fluoride from public drinking water, toothpaste, and certain foods. However, a professional fluoride treatment can help make your smile even safer so that you are less likely to have any major oral health issues before your next appointment in six months.

Oral Cancer Screenings

As with any kind of cancer, detecting oral cancer early is important. That’s why our dental office uses OralID. This special device looks like a small flashlight and can be used alongside a traditional visual exam to screen for soft tissue abnormalities in the gums, tongue, the inner lining of the cheek, and other surfaces within the oral cavity. It uses a specific light wavelength that reflects a green color off of healthy tissue but appears dark for any abnormal tissue. If we detect anything during your exam, we can begin working with you on a treatment plan immediately.
